Students Scientific Society


 Students Scientific Society is made up of active research students of the Medical University of Warsaw. Students Scientific Society is organizing a number of training courses, seminars and conferences. Subsidizes trips to scientific conferences, and grant funding for mini-grants to science. In this way it allows students an access to the latest developments in the world of medicine, it gives a chance to improve their skills and knowledge, as well as to present their achievements at international congresses.

In 2011, the Medical University Professors chose, out of 60 student’s mini-grants,  53 best science projects that are currently being carried out by students - members of the Students Scientific Society of Medical University of Warsaw.

Among the distinguished projects are i.a.:

          The role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) to reduce damage in the mechanism of ischemia - reperfusion after rat kidney transplant (Students Scientific Circle in the Department and Clinic of General, Vascular and Transplant Surgery of the 1st Faculty of Medicine);

          Assessment of the impact of external fixation of the cervical spine (Kampa collar) on balance and postural control. Research Posturographic (Students Scientific Circle in the Department of Neurosurgery of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine)

          The use of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray structural analysis and theoretical methods in the study of post-limorfizmu new salt of clopidogrel (Students Scientific Circle in the Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy).

Assessment of nutritional status in the elderly using electrical bioimpedance (Students Scientific Circle in the Department of Clinical Nursing Faculty of Health Sciences).

• The use of machine learning methods to support the medical diagnosis (Students Scientific Circle Society in the Clinic of Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Dialysis at the Military Medical Institute – Students Scientific Circle outside Medical University of Warsaw).

Students' Scientific Society coordinates the activity of the University’s Scientific Circles. Currently, there are 157 circles at the Medical University, registered on 4 Medical University Faculties and other scientific and clinical units in Warsaw, such as the Institute of Cardiology, Institute "Monument - Center for Children's Health" or the Military Medical Institute.

In addition to supporting students’ research activities the Students Scientific Society gives every year the Golden Badge of the Medical University of Warsaw to gradates who were, during their studies particularly active in conducting their own research and scientific studies or distinguished themselves during the congresses and conferences .

Students Scientific Society has organized several symposia, including a very significant event, which is the Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists. This conference takes place during the summer term and a large group of medical students and young doctors from all over the world participate every year.

In 2012, the Students' Scientific Society of Medical University of Warsaw celebrates 60 years of its existence. On this occasion it was in Warsaw to meet the best of the best - the winners of the Scientific Sessions of the Polish and European Congresses to compete for prizes Grand Prix of the students’ science movement in Poland.


At the Medical University of Warsaw students academic/scientific life is developing very dynamically. Currently, in the care of staff of clinics, departments and chairs, hundreds of students conduct research and implement projects in 157 scientific circles.

Student Scientific Circle is the best place to broaden extracurricular knowledge and acquire new skills. Students active in scientific circles, participate in the academic life of the University, putting the first steps in the medical and pharmaceutical environment under the guidance of experienced academic researchers and eminent specialists.
